Pre-conference description

The SASP Gender and Sexuality Pre-conference will bring together researchers working across gender, sexuality, LGBTQIA+ health and wellbeing, prejudice, identity, relationships, embodiment, social change, and related areas of social psychology. The pre-conference will provide a dedicated space for connection, intellectual exchange, and community-building among scholars at all career stages, including HDR students and early career researchers.

The program will combine short data blitz presentations, an invited keynote address, a facilitated discussion about the future of gender and sexuality research within SASP, and opportunities for networking. Rather than focusing only on completed research, the pre-conference will encourage generative discussion about the nature, shape, and future direction of gender and sexuality research in Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, and the broader region. Key themes will include methodological innovation, inclusive and ethical publishing, community-engaged scholarship, intersectionality, and the role of social psychology in responding to contemporary social and political challenges affecting gender and sexually diverse communities.

By creating a welcoming and collegial space for dialogue, collaboration, and mentoring, the pre-conference aims to strengthen networks among gender and sexuality scholars and support the development of a vibrant, inclusive research community within SASP.
