Title: Is Environmental Psychology Research Fit for Purpose?
Environmental challenges, such as climate change and biodiversity loss, demand effective responses from individuals, communities, organisations, and governments. Environmental psychology offers important insights into these challenges; however, translating such research into meaningful societal impact remains a persistent challenge. This pre-conference will explore how environmental psychology can better connect with policy and practice, and how engagement with practitioners can help shape more relevant and impactful research. In particular, we will consider how academic-community research collaborations and place-based approaches, including engagement with Indigenous and Māori knowledge systems, can increase the uptake of environmental psychology insights among practitioners and communities. Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, and facilitated exchanges, participants will discuss opportunities, challenges, and pathways for strengthening the real-world impact of environmental psychology.
