Abstract
Social psychology still relies heavily on narrow cultural samples, limiting how well the field explains psychological processes embedded in particular historical and cultural settings. The Culture in Context preconference will provide a forum for cultural and cross-cultural approaches to psychological science. The programme will open with a 30-minute invited keynote address by Dr. Ben Walker from Victoria University of Wellington, followed by 5-minute blitz-style presentations selected through an open call. These presentations will cover emerging findings, datasets, networks, and methods from scholars across the region, and overseas. We aim to bring together scholars who study culture, ecology, history, data science, and social life as central features of psychological explanation. We are looking for short, 5-minute blitz presentations, and/or posters, on research done in these areas. We accept research across a diversity in methods, populations, research networks, and theoretical approaches, and encourage participation from researchers at all career stages. This preconference is supported by a Spark grant from the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP).
