We are excited to announce that applications are now open for SASP conference travel and early career awards. This year, we are also pleased to introduce the Distinguished Contribution Award.
All applications are due on Sunday 9th August, and should be emailed to the SASP Secretary []. We will endeavour to notify all applicants of the outcomes by early September. Although we recognise the variable and multidimensional nature of fairness, we will strive for fairness in our decisions in line with our understanding of the values pursued by SASP.
SASP Distinguished Contribution Award
The SASP Distinguished Contribution Award recognises impactful contributions to the discipline of social psychology, beyond the early career stage.
To be eligible for this award, nominees should:
- Be at least 5 years post-PhD (i.e. no longer be eligible for the Early Career Award)
- Be a paid member of SASP
- Demonstrate outstanding contributions across one or more domains:
- Research
- Teaching and Mentorship
- Leadership and Service
- Social Impact
Applicants can self-nominate or can be nominated by other SASP members. To apply, applicants should submit their CV, a cover letter outlining their achievements in the relevant domain(s), and two references.
The recipient of the award will be invited to give an address at the SASP 2026 conference and will have their conference registration fee covered.
SASP Early Career Award
This award recognises an emerging scholar who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of social psychology in Australasia.
To be eligible for this award, nominees should:
- Be a paid member of SASP
- Have completed their PhD less than 5 years ago (adjusted for career interruptions)
Applicants can self-nominate or can be nominated by other SASP members. To apply, applicants should submit their CV, a cover letter outlining their research achievements, and two references.
The recipient of the award will be invited to give an address at the SASP 2026 conference and will have their conference registration fee covered.
Margaret Foddy Postgraduate Travel Awards
SASP is pleased to offer 10 x $500 awards Margaret Foddy Postgraduate Travel Awards to assist postgraduate students with their travel costs to the SASP 2026 conference in Christchurch.
Decisions regarding the distribution of the awards will be based upon answers provided to the questions on the attached application form and applicants’ accompanying CV and letter of support. When making decisions regarding the distribution of the awards, we will consider, among other things, the likely costs incurred through attendance, opportunities for alternative funding, past receipt of a SASP Travel Award, and future eligibility for this award.
To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a paid member of SASP
- Study in Australia or New Zealand
- Submitted an abstract to present at the conference
To apply you must submit as a single merged PDF document containing:
- A completed Postgraduate Travel Award Application Form
- A copy of your CV
- A statement from your postgraduate supervisor in support of your application and confirming your answer to the question regarding your access to other forms of financial aid
Honours Travel Awards
SASP is pleased to offer 2 x $500 awards to Honours students to assist with their travel costs to the SASP 2026 conference in Christchurch. These awards are intended to provide financial assistance to students in their Honours year who wish to attend SASP conferences to present their Honours research.
Decisions regarding the distribution of the awards will be based upon answers provided to the questions on the attached application form and applicants’ accompanying CV and letter of support. When making decisions regarding the distribution of the awards, we will consider, among other things, the likely costs incurred through attendance, opportunities for alternative funding, and aspirations for postgraduate study.
To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a paid member of SASP (please note students should select the ‘postgrad member’ option when registering as a member)
- Study in Australia or New Zealand
- Submitted an abstract to present their Honours thesis at the conference
To apply you must submit as a single merged PDF document:
- A completed Honours Travel Award Application Form
- A copy of your CV
- A statement from your Honours supervisor in support of your application and confirming your answer to the question regarding your access to other forms of financial aid
