Social Program

Social evening involving Aussie style activities and barbeque

Following the academic activities on Tuesday afternoon (30th of April) we will make our way to Newcastle beach for those interested in some light physical activity at sunset (directly across from Noahs). Activities will be Aussie style and include beach volleyball, beach cricket, Frisbee throwing, or a stroll around the rock pools (weather permitting). You do not need to have any degree of proficiency – just wear something comfortable and come and have fun after an intense day thinking and networking!

The beach is not patrolled at that time so anyone who wants a dip can walk to the nearby ocean baths (2 mins away). Last light is at 5.40pm. However, artificial lighting is along the entire beach boardwalk.

Dinner Tuesday (30.04.2019) Aussie BBQ (Barbeque)

Pronounced barbie – q, this is an Australian tradition where people gather over the smell of sizzling snags (sausages), fun, banter and for us beach sports

After some fun and games, please join us to unwind and enjoy an informal Aussie style barbeque for dinner. The barbeque will run at The Kiosk, Newcastle Beach, just opposite the conference hotel and will be free of charge for the conference delegates and participants. In true Australian style the food options on offer will be sausages, steaks, fresh rolls, fresh slaw salad, green salad, potato salad and a selection of desserts. Special dietary requirements will also be catered for. A variety of cold beverages will be available for purchase at the kiosk or you can bring your own (or BYO) alcoholic drink (e.g., there is a Bottle Shop called Rowies – about a 300 – 500m walk away). We will advise on alternate plans in the event of wet weather. Come along, enjoy yourself and dinner is on us!
